Influences

Die Hard 4 features a similar plot including computer hacking.

Problem solving!!

HACKER IN HIDING; Hacker will be in a dark room in a a different place, away from the Government house/room. This way the hacker can stay unidentified as the Government agents would go to the wrong house to try and catch him, while he is safe in another house.

MAN POWER; The Government agents would be a pair and they will get sent to the house by the Head Governor after the riddle is solved, this means that there is no need to find/hirer lots of actors to create a large team of Government agents.

VEHICLE; we will need a large black/dark vehicle for the agents to arrive at the house in. We would like a Land Rover but as none of us own one and neither do our parents we will have to look at other solutions to the vehicle problem.

Mood Board

Final Plot Idea!!

After the class pitching session, our above idea has been green lighted. Some problems with the idea were found but we are working on fixing them in time to film. Problems such as the man power needed and where the hacker is actually hiding. We will put up an update shortly about how we are planning to solve these problems.

12A

May be unsuitable for under 12s. Those aged under 12 are only admitted if accompanied by an adult at all times during the performance (cinema only).
We didn't really think 12A would be a thriller certificate but after researching 'The Lovely Bones' we now consider it a possibility.

Example of thriller

Drama/fantasy thriller
Centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family - and her killer - from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.
PG-13 in USA and 12A in UK

Example of thriller

This is an example of an action thriller, as yet it has no age certification but we think it would be a 15 because of violence and possible sex scenes.

BBFC Classification!!

Suitable only for those aged 12 and over.

No-one younger than 12 can rent or buy a 12 rated VHS, DVD, Blu-ray Disc, UMD or game.

Ubisoft Ident!!

We would like to use music fairly similar to this for our ident.

Planning ident!!

We chose the production title '3rd Dimension Productions' as we already had a template but will create a new style of opening with it.

Music tryouts!!

We tried to create a soundtrack for the credits of the thriller film 'Taking lives'. We had a good idea of what instruments we wanted to use but we could not find them so we had to create a last minute put together which did work but it was not amazing. However now we know what kind of music we are looking for, for our final thriller opening.

Political Thrillers

A political thriller is a thriller that is set against the backdrop of political power struggle. They can involve national or international political scenarios. World War II is a favorite scenario, as are US presidential elections.
For example:

Fears

Thrillers work on the basis of people's fears. These can include:

- ghosts
- clowns
- dark woods
- cannibals
- spiders/insects
- lifts
- confined spaces
- youths/gangs
- the dark
- death
- the unknown
- getting lost
- crime/weapons
- terrorists
- drugs
- illness
- recession
- end of the world
- government corruption
- war
- nuclear attacks
- technology and identity theft

definition of a psychological thriller

Psychological thriller is a specific sub-genre of the wide-ranging thriller genre. However, this genre often incorporates elements from the mystery and drama genre in addition to the typical traits of the thriller genre. Also, occasionally this genre will border into the also wide-ranging horror genre.

Generally, thrillers focus on plot over character, and thus emphasize intense, physical action over the character's psyche. Psychological thrillers tend to reverse this formula to a certain degree, emphasizing the characters just as much, if not more so, than the plot.

The suspense created by psychological thrillers often comes from two or more characters preying upon one another's minds, either by playing deceptive games with the other or by merely trying to demolish the other's mental state.

Sometimes the suspense comes from within one solitary character where characters must resolve conflict with their own minds. Usually, this conflict is an effort to understand something that has happened to them. These conflicts are made more vivid with physical expressions of the conflict in the means of either physical manifestations, or physical torsions of the characters at play.

What is a thriller?

For a film to be classified as a thriller it needs to contain the following aspects:
- suspense
- tension
- mystery
- intrigue
- puzzle
- plot twists

Some examples of thrillers are:
- Psycho
- Se7en
- Changeling
- Donnie Darko
- The Bourne Identity

Evalutation!!

1) Continuity editing - Editing to make it seem smooth and have a good flow, without blips and incorrect timing. The narrative is straight forward and logical.

We used continuity editing, as our prelim. task has a natural narrative flow. We did this by using cuts to create a logical sequence.

2) 180 degree rule -

The 180 degree rule is the rule that prevents the camera from crossing an invisible line so as not to confuse the viewer as to who is who in the conversation. We used this while filming our conversation by not letting either camera cross the line. For example, during the conversation, one of the cameras was always on Kathryn's right hand side and the other on Hayley's left.

3) Match on action is a continuation of movement for a different angle. For example, we filmed a door from two angles and edited them together to create flow. We also used the same technique when Kathryn was walking away from one camera and towards the other right at the end of our scene.

4) Shot - counter - shot is where the cameras cut in between two shots and combines them to create the effect of two people looking at one another.
We used this in an unconventional way in our conversation by having the camera look at the two 'cameramen' as if through the eyes of Kathryn and Hayley creating the effect of them looking at one another.

Prelimary task

Filming!!

For the filming process, we merged our group with another group to create a group of four. This really helped the filming process :) We also had the advantage of using two cameras so we could film the conversation only once. Due to the merge, we changed our script and did it spontaneously which we think worked really well. We managed to almost complete the editing in the same lesson as filming and only had to do a few things the lesson after before completing it :)

Possible Location Pictures

We found several possible corridor locations to film in. The above 3 are of the location we prefer.

Prelim. task!!!

Prelim. task SCRIPT

ESTABLISHING SHOT OF HAYLEY WALKING (PAN)
CLOSE UP AND MATCH ON ACTION SHOT OF HAYLEY OPENING DOOR

K WALKS THROUGH DOOR AND BUMPS INTO H (LONG SHOT)

K: HI

(HAYLEY REACTION SHOT)

(SHOT COUNTER/SHOT FOR THE CONVERSATION)
H: ...hi

K: HOW ARE YOU?? DID YOU HAVE A GOOD CHRISTMAS? DID YOU GO ANYWHERE? GET ANY GOOD PRESENTS?

H:...yeah...you?

K: YEAH IT WAS GREAT THANKS I WENT TO FLORIDA AND HAWAII AND NORWAY AND THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE

H:...alright well...see you later then

K: OK! SEE YOU LATER

Prelim. task LOCATION

Ideas:
Music room - Pros - Big/small amount of echo/even ground
- Cons - Possibly not available/Piano and tables can be in way
Outside - Pros - LOTS of space
- Cons - Wind blowing/cold/uneven ground
Refectory - Pros - Lots of space/realistic location/extras in the background
- Cons - lots of noise/too many people could get in way or mess around
Corridor - Pros - Quiet
- Cons - Small

The corridor would be best.
